How to merge rows of a gridview in Winforms?

I'm from ASP.NET background and new to windows application. We have requirment which will group/merge consicative rows of a gridview.

I'm familiar with gridview events of ASP.NET like RowDataBound, RowCreated which will help to to solve this scenario. I would like to know what are the possible ways to solve this scenario using windows app? Here is a the small representation of what I'm looking for,

I came across couple of winforms gridview events like CellFormatting & CellPainting, If I'm correct can someone share more details/suggestions on this?
